Mine
is the kingdom, the power, the glory, the wealth
of Christendom, by right of birth,
by rite of king, and citizen,
and countryship’s decreed priv’lege;
Mine eyes
are bright with the promises of new life
and strange beginnings on far shores
where none knows my name, save God and queen,
(and where no God can find my sin…)
Mine eyes have seen
the black forests, blacker lands, all brightened
by blue standard, by dear red crosse.
O heart of dear St. George, preserve
our brave intrepid entrepreneurs!
Mine eyes have seen the glory
of dark lands becoming bright, and clean,
of ancient barbarity give way
to this matchless civility;
In light of this, who can but say:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the world.
